The Light of
Eidon Scrapbook This
page takes some time to load, especially the map of Jarnek. I had a choice of
making it load fast or load readable and I chose readable. If it says it’s
done before everything has arrived, hit refresh and that should help. |

The
swept-hilt rapier was the civilian weapon of choice from early 1500s
to the early 1700s. The blade is 37 inches long and 7/8inches wide. It is
shown here with the left-hand dagger. |

Newbold was
based upon our Bloodhound-Black and Tan hound mix, Grumpy. He was about two
years old in this shot and was one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever known. He
used to tear the socks off the clothesline so I decided to watch him secretly
from inside and catch him in the act.
He waited until I went away. Then he tore them down. He also stole a
woman’s purse once, took it to a place at the back of our apple orchard and
emptied it to examine all the contents. |

I discovered an article about
Petra in the December 1998 issue of
National Geographic and was so fascinated by it, I based Jarnek
upon it. “Laced with channels, terraces and cisterns (left, at center) the
cliffs above Petra display the Nabateans’ skill at capturing and controlling
rainwater,” reads the Geographic caption for this picture. For more
information check out this site that gives you a virtual tour. |

Windbird is not
a clipper ship, and there are many details that are different, but I thought
this picture of The Oriental, the first U.S. clipper to carry tea from
China to England, still made a good model. |
